Do you know where you will spend eternity?
This is the most important question in life. Most people believe in an afterlife. God says there is one. He says there are two possibilities – heaven with Him or the Lake of Fire separated from Him forever.
Most believe that God will accept you based on your personal goodness. Many think you can get there by trying to have your good outweigh your bad. The problem is that God is holy and He requires perfection to get to heaven. No one can live up to His perfect standard. One small sin is an infinite offense to Him. Sin is disobeying God in thought, word, or action. Have you ever lied? Did you ever steal anything no matter how small? Have you lusted in your heart for another person or thing (Matt. 5:28)? Even your bad thoughts are considered sinful . And the good things we do cannot take away the bad things we have done.
“All have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Rom. 3:23). Sin has separated us from God (Is. 59:2). So God, out of His love, provided the only way to restore our relationship with Him.
The GOOD NEWS is that God dealt with our sin problem. Jesus, fully God and fully Man, died a substitutionary death for us. He died in our place. He paid our sin debt so we have no debt to pay. “For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son (Jesus), that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life”(John 3:16). He rose again on the third day proving that He has the power over sin and death.
Assurance of heaven is by faith in Jesus and His work on the cross. The apostle Paul wrote; “that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures (I Cor. 15:3, 4). That is the gospel, good news.
God made it simple. Don’t miss heaven by trusting in anything you can do. Assurance is not in your good behavior, religious rituals, or in your good works. Assurance of going to heaven is by faith in Jesus according to His word. “Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved” (Acts 16:31).
Jesus said, “Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me has everlasting life” (John 6:47). Everlasting life is the gift of God and lasts forever (Romans 6:23). If it could be taken away for some reason, it wouldn’t be everlasting. It would be temporary. He said it. Believe it! TAKE GOD AT HIS WORD.
Death in the Bible refers to separation. Because of sin, all of us come into the world separated from God. Through His death and resurrection Jesus restored the relationship between God and man. He made the payment for our sin. He offers life (everlasting) as a gift. But each person has a decision to receive the gift or not. Will you receive the gift of everlasting life by believing on the Lord Jesus Christ ?
